about

Step 1: Sit down to the piano and this time try to not give a sh#t.
Forget about everything you have learned about chords, scales, progressions, notes to avoid, groove, etc.
At this point all this knowledge is just blocking you to express yourself, so I want you to play completely random lines and if you have the possibility: record yourself.

Your mind is going to tell you: "I don't have enough knowledge to be random. Even if it is random, I hear that my lines are basic and my rhythm is shaky, so... lets go back to study some more jazz"

If this exercise would be about the genre "free jazz" than yes, I agree with you, but this is about learning how to fail and be ok with it.

What is the point of recording you randomness?
Listen to it and you might realize that actually it sounded quite good. This exercise will eventually make you less worried about rules and wrong notes.

You don't make mistakes. Mistakes make you. They make you smarter. Fail spectacularly. Because when you fail, you learn. When you fail, you live.'

Miles Davis — 'Do not fear mistakes - there are none. '
